
The AERC has a fully operational computer centre with a large number of PCs,
laser printers and scanners. These are connected in Local Area Network (LAN)
environment that facilitates sharing of resources. Recently, two HP Proliant ML
350 Servers and an HP 4300 Network Laser Printer have been added to further
enhance computing power. The Computer Centre is intensively utilized for
research and training purposes and Internet use. Email and internet access is
available to both the staff and the students on the network. The library and administration computers
are connected with the main computer centre through the network. A variety of software packages are
available, which enable sophisticated statistical and econometric analysis and
handling of large data sets. The
Centre has specialized computer science, programming, networking, web developer
and data base management staff who are an integral part of research and training
activities. A number of data sets
on various aspects of the economy are available in the computer lab.

The Centre maintains a rapidly expanding library in the field of economics, with particular emphasis on areas of economics related to its principal research interests as well as a wide range of material used for its teaching programme. The library currently subscribes to over 250 periodicals in economics and the social sciences. The collection of books number approximately 26,000. Included in the library is an extensive collection of government of Pakistan publications, which are used by researchers as a valuable source of data. The library has a large collection of Working Papers of International Agencies like the World Bank, IMF, etc. and Discussion Paper series of universities abroad. The extensive collection of economics books and journals in the State Bank of Pakistan Library is also available for use by the Center's staff. The library has inter-library loan connections with other libraries in the country. Recently the library has been awarded the status of Full Depository of the World Bank, The Asian Development Bank and The International Monetary Fund.

Mohammad Aly Rangoonwala Managing Trustee of Zuleikhabai V.M Gany Rangoonwala Trust passed away on the 12th June 1998. Mr. M.A Rangoonwala was a well known industrialist and philanthropist with an international reputation, besides he played a pioneering role in the establishment of many public institutions in Pakistan. During his life time he had expressed the desire to do something for the University of Karachi. Hence he was a trustees of the Zuleikhabai V.M Gany Rangoonwala Trust. Mr. Tariq Rangoonwala wanted his desire to be fulfilled. He discussed this matter with the Dr. Ehsan Rashid, erstwhile Founder Director of the AERC. Dr. Rasheed suggested to build a Conference Hall at the AERC. The Trustee of the Rangoon Wala Trust very kindly donated Rs. 2.5 millions for the Hall.
This fully carpeted and centrally air-conditioned Hall has capacity for 120 persons. It can be used for seminars, training programs, workshops, conferences and symposia. The Hall is fully equipped with the state of the art audio-visual facilities including multimedia and public address system. The Conference Hall will enable the AERC to hold its seminars and conferences and will be of great service to the academic pursuits at the AERC.
